Over 600 Campus Journalists from the public and private elementary and secondary schools contended to get the top slots in the 40th Pasay City Schools Press Conference and Contests held on September 3,5 and 6,2019 at Jose Rizal Elementary School.
The event officially signaled its opening ceremony on September 3, 2019 in the presence of the Schools Division Officials, School Heads, Schools Paper Advisers, teachers, parents and the Campus Journalists.
Dr. Rolando E. Soriano, School Head of Jose Rizal Elementary School delivered the welcome remarks saying,” This activity is hoped to give huge contribution to the dreams and aspirations of the journalists.”
In the message of Dr. Evangeline P. Ladines, Schools Division Superintendent, she said,” Being a winner does not stop you from being a journalist, it is just a beginning. She added,” Good students and good individuals must enhance first their literacy.”
With the theme,” Fostering Literacy on Campus Journalistic Writing,” the contestants in elementary and secondary public and private schools showcased their oral and written skills in both individual and group contests in Filipino and English.
Proclaimed as the overall champion in Elementary Level is Padre Zamora Elementary School. The runner ups are:1st Kalayaan Elementary School,2nd Timoteo Paez Elementary School,3rd Juan Sumulong Elementary School while P. Villanueva Elementary School and Villamor Air Base Elementary School tied to the 4th runner up.
The conference and contests activities include the following for Individual Contests in English and Filipino: Editorial Writing/ Pagsulat ng Editorial, Feature Writing/ Pagsulat ng Lathalain, News Writing /Pagsulat ng Balita, Sports Writing/Pagsulat ng Balitang Pampalakasan, Copy reading, Headline Writing/Pagwawasto at Pag-uulo ng Balita, Editorial Cartooning /Kartuning, Photojournalism / Pagkuha ng Larawan, Science and Health/ Pagsulat ng Pang-Agham at Pangkalusugan.
In addition, Group Categories such as Radio Script Writiing and Broadcast Contest, Collaborative and Desktop Publishing (CDP) Contest, TV Script Writing and Broadcasting Contest for Secondary Level were encompassed during the said conference.
Meanwhile, the 400 scribes who were hailed as winners in individual and group categories shall represent the division to the 2019 Regional Schools Press Conference on October 8-11,2019 at Aurora Quezon Elementary School, Division of Manila.
